Before Alex and I arrived at the site, a team of workers dug trenches for the footings, and gathered the materials needed for pouring cement. There was only human power on site so there was a lot of shoveling to do. Trenches were dug, and the brick and concrete footings set. Soil from the trenches was saved to use in the concrete mixture for pouring the slab. The photos show a few other buildings on the site, typical to the area. Thatch roofs with steep angles shed water successfully during the rainy season, and overhang the mud and stick walls. Alex and I stayed in the mud and concrete hut (the white building in the first picture).
