After finishing the slab and gathering materials, Alex and I were sad to leave this incredible place. However, we were very fortunate to have a team of people on site who were excited and committed to the project. Despite not being there to help with its completion, the building turned out very similar to its design. Especially in places where communication is limited, it can be difficult to ensure the design is executed. The only real say we had in its construction once we left, was in the drawings, so it's very important to make them clear, simple, and easy for anyone to understand.
On the angled structural members sitting outside the building's walls, we had proposed a rain screen made of wood and sticks, backed with a clear, stiff membrane or sheet. This did not get built, and during a hash rain storm, water entered the building. People on site constructed an enclosure from reeds, which effectively stopped the rain, but we had hoped the assembly would be attached to the angled structural members so air could flow underneath the roof. This was one component to the design which should have been communicated more thoroughly to ensure it was built how we had hoped.
